These instructions are for a quick and easy bonnet pattern that can be completed in a few days (if you’re feeling game).

The bonnet is worked on straight needles to create a rectangle. Ribbing is added along one long edge, and two i-cords are worked from the corners of the ribbing to create a bow. 

This knitting pattern is for a PDF download for sizes: newborn (0-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months).

Materials Required

  • 4mm (US 6) straight knitting needles (30 cm / 12 in)
  • 1 x Chaska Alpaca Air 12 Ply Yarn (50g / 100m) in colour A
  • 1 x Chaska Alpaca Air 12 Ply Yarn (50g / 100m) in colour B
  • 2 x 4mm (US 6) double-pointed needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Yarn snips

Gauge

20 stitches x 26 rows = 10 cm / 4 in in stocking stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles.

Skill Level

This is an easy knitting pattern.

Required Techniques: Long tail cast on, knitting flat, knit, purl, stockinette stitch, garter stitch, i-cords, cast off, mattress stitch.
