Ugly Sweater Knitting Pattern

The purpose of the ugly sweater is to create a mismatched, one of a kind sweater that uses up all the odd ends of balls of yarn from previous projects. If the colours don’t match, it will look even better. Blend colours, combine contrasting shades or even different types of wool, try to finish those random skeins of yarn that have been collecting dust with this wonderful, ugly, cosy, and crazy sweater.

The sweater shape is an oversized, raglan sweater knitted top-down and in the round.  This project is knitted with two strands of 12ply brushed mohair held together to create a chunky fabric, you can use other types of yarn to make this sweater as well, but try to make sure that the gauge matches to ensure the correct fit of the sweater.

The Ugly Sweater Pattern is an intermediate knitting pattern with instructions for sizes XS[ S, M, L XL ] (au/nz sizing). A colour chart is also included that outlines how to replicate a rainbow pattern as pictured if you don't want to free hand the colours.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

• 9mm 60cm circular knitting needles
• 7mm 40cm knitting needles
• 850m [ 900m, 950m, 1050m 1100m] Mohair and Possum NZ Brushed Mohair (50g/100m) in various shades - if you're short on odd balls, we recommend bulking out your sweater with a base colour, such as cream.
